Walworth Road Retail Campaign
On Saturday 17th December Creation Trust in partnership with Southwark Council organised a series of events and activities aimed at encouraging people to shop in Walworth.
Very popular was the free gifting wrapping service, for anyone spending over £20. At some points in the day there was a queue of people waiting to have their gifts wrapped. The Mayor of Southwark also joined in and wrapped some gifts for local shoppers!
There were also a series of concerts in local shops on the high street, Nigel of Bermondsey lead customers of Iceland and Arments in a good old fashioned Christmas sing along. Local musician Natty Bo did some 1930s style Christmas songs in shops along the Walworth Road. There were also Latin American dancers and drummers, close up magic and of course, Charlie Chaplin.
Creation also arranged for some Christmas themed workshops, including a very popular wine tasting session! Some lucky shoppers who got in early enough, received a bags for life, which said ‘I shop SE17’ People could be seen carrying these bags all day, up and down the street.
