Pop – Up Shop Project
Do you think you have want it takes to work with a team to set up and run your own shop? Then the Pop - up shop project could be for you?
Project Outline
We are looking for 20 young people asked between 16- 24, living in Southwark, who are interested in working in the retail industry, or who would like to have their own shop. This project runs for 7 weeks, which includes a 4 week accredited training programme/setting up of a shop/ ordering stock and then running their shop for 3 weeks. The shop will be on the Walworth Road and will open 1st March 2012.
Young people will learn how to set up a shop, they will have to think about their branding, layout of the shop, what to sell and at what price to the customer. It will require determination from the young people involved and the ability to act and function as a team.
The trainees will get the chance to make all the decisions, what to call the shop, what to sell… This is a really unique programme. They will also learn negotiating skills, organisation skills, team work as well as get a real world experience of what is involved in setting up and managing a shop. They will understand the range of jobs in the retail sector and how to use their natural talents and abilities to make a rewarding career in the retail industry.
There will also be opportunities for interview practice, job search and a series of one to one sessions for career planning, and real support to help trainees progress on to work, work placements, internerships or education.
Lunch will be provided every day, we can also meet travel expenses if necessary.
Timetable and location:
Training will start on the Monday 6th February and finishes most days at 4pm. All the trainees will commit to attending the training five days a week, some of these will be based in the shop, some at the Robust jobs training centre on the Walworth Road, also in other locations relevant to the setting up of the shop.
Once the shop is open, there will be shift work, the shop is expected to open 6 days a week. Trainees will be able to determine the opening hours, though they are expected to cover at least 10 – 5 Tuesday – Sunday.
