Young and Older People's projects on the Aylesbury funded by Creation
Youth and Sports Activities
The Young Peoples Project, delivered by partners InSpire and Sports Action Zone (SAZ) will re-establish the youth strategy for the area and sustain delivery of youth services and opportunities following the completion of the NDC programme. Creation's funding will support 2InSpire, a key local facility which provides activities 7 days a week – including popular dance, drama, radio and publishing projects. The funding will ensure a diverse range of sports activities are delivered on the estate, and a full programme of activities and visits are provided during school holidays. The Youth Practitioners Group of local organisations working with young people, will continue to meet to discuss issues, share ideas and collaborate over joint events.
The Aylesbury Older Peoples Project, delivered by Southwark Pensioners Centre will provide a dedicated Information and Activities Coordinator to continue older peoples activities on the estate, such as painting, dance and fitness classes. Regular welfare rights/casework sessions will be available to advise on housing and finance issues, while an Employment Advice Service will provide support to those over 50 wishing to access employment opportunities.
Creation is excited to fund such important work on the estate. Jean Bartlett, Trustee of Creation said 'There is a real need to support our younger and older people, as they can often feel vulnerable during large estate redevelopment of this kind. These projects will provide fun activities and a supportive environment which will help develop peoples' skills and expand opportunities open to them.'
